Traditional, Cremation and Green Burial Options
Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery offers three main burial options. You can choose what best aligns with your values and needs.
Traditional Full-Body Burial
Burial plots are available throughout the cemetery. Families may select plots close to loved ones or in scenic areas of the grounds. A range of memorial styles, including upright monuments and flat markers can be accommodated.
Cremation Burial and Niches
Cremated remains can be buried in dedicated plots or placed in above-ground columbarium niches. Niches are located within beautifully maintained sections of the cemetery and include an engraved nameplate.
Green Burial
For those looking for a simpler, environmentally conscious option, the cemetery offers designated green burial areas. These plots are designed to minimize environmental impact while maintaining the spiritual dignity of traditional burial.
Each burial option is carried out with respect and in accordance with the values that guide Mission San Luis Rey. Staff members are available to walk families through each step - from plot selection to headstone placement.
On-Site Access to Funeral and Memorial Services
Families who choose burial service at Mission San Luis Rey may also plan Catholic funeral Masses in the Historic Mission Church. For non-Catholic families or those not planning a Mass, chapel or graveside services or memorials can be coordinated on-site.
The cemetery staff works closely with families and their chosen funeral homes or parishes. The goal is to provide a peaceful setting where every service reflects the life and beliefs of the person being honored.
